Dersingham Open Gardens, a symphony in arts and flowers

Open Gardens events are always a popular feature of Spring and Summer, so don't miss Dersingham Open Gardens which takes place annually on the Spring bank holiday weekend. Dates for 2019 to be confirmed. We aim to bring you at least the scent of Chelsea with a show that features some wonderful village gardens, an art studio trail, and of course the opportunity for a cuppa and a piece of cake. Or maybe lunch too!

Naturally there will be plenty of gardens to wander round, some new and some old familiar friends. Along the way you will find that some of the gardens will be part of the Dersingham Art Trail so you can pop into a few art studios, chat to the artists and study their work. The Art Trail website is at Dersingham Art There will be stalls and refreshment stands in some of the gardens to add to the experience as you make your way round.

Your tour of Dersingham Open Gardens starts at St Nicholas Church, from where you buy your ticket (unless bought in advance) and pick up a copy of the guide to the gardens. There is a map available here which shows the location of St Nicholas Church.

This is one of the premier open gardens events in West Norfolk, with up to twenty gardens and around ten art studios open - you really have to be there. The gardeners, artists and everyone else involved all look forward to meeting you!

Tickets for Dersingham Open Gardens cost £4 if bought in advance. Advance tickets are available from Dersingham Post office in Post Office Rd. and can be bought from the end of April. On the two days of the event your advance ticket must be exchanged for a guide, which you can get from St Nicholas Church.

If you wish to pay on the day the cost is £5, which should be paid at the Church. Here you will be given a guide, which includes a map and details of the gardens and art studios. Admission to art studios only is free.

Children under 16 are admitted free to the event but must be accompanied by an adult.

The primary purpose of Dersingham Open Gardens is to raise money for St Nicholas, the village church, but this year a proportion of the profit from the event will go to the fund for the new Dersingham Village Centre, which is replacing the previous Church Hall. Many of the expenses of running Open Gardens are defrayed by voluntary work or financial contributions, ensuring that the maximum amount goes to worthy causes.

Car parking areas will be signed, but will be in St Nicholas Court which is adjacent to St Nicholas Church. Dersingham is a large village, so you may wish to use your car to get to some of the more outlying gardens.

Guide to Gardens and Studios

Whether you buy a ticket in advance or on the day, you'll want to start your tour at St Nicholas church. Here you'll be given your guide to the gardens and to the art studios. The guide is in full colour this year, and is kindly sponsored by Clan Press. The guide includes a map and gives information about all the participating gardens and studios.

Should it be inconvenient for you to start at the Church, all the gardens will have a small supply of printed guides. That way you can start at any garden and pay for your ticket and obtain your guide there.

Touring round gardens, examining artwork, stocking up with plants from a garden stall. All guaranteed to make you feel in need of refreshment! At Dersingham Open Gardens the hard working catering teams will be in action in the Church. If you are too far from there and in need of refreshment, a couple of the gardens will be serving teas and coffee. See the guide for details.

Art Trail

The Dersingham Art Trail is a cluster of artists who are all located in or close to the village of Dersingham, West Norfolk. On the Trail you'll find paintings, prints, pottery, photography, fused glass, handmade cards, handpainted candles and more. Entry to all studios is completely free, but should you feel tempted there will often be original work for sale, along with small items such as prints or greetings cards. However there is no obligation to buy, and artists will be pleased to have your company whatever the reason for your visit.

Whilst studios are open to the public for Trail events, you are very welcome to visit them at other times but please contact the individual artist before calling. You can find out all about the individual artists by visiting the Art Trail website Dersingham Art
